Top 5 Best Ways to Use QR Codes at Trade Shows

Wow! Thanks for the positive response from our last post, “5 Tips for Using QR Codes on Promotional Items”. Because of our massive viewer-ship, we thought it would only be fitting to write an encore article about using QR codes at trade shows.

So! Everyone is gearing up for trade show season or you’re trying to think of ways to standout, break through the clutter, be different, etc. Well, let’s start with your pre-trade show marketing and work our way to event follow-up.

  1. Tease Them: If you can get your hands on the trade show attendance list, then you might’ve just hit gold. Segment the list by hot, warm, cold prospects and design a direct marketing campaign targeting your ‘hot’ list. For example…send your hot prospects a promotional item with a QR code that links to a video with a secret pass-phrase that they must have in order to get a ‘free gift’ from your booth. The QR code will offer intrigue, will get your name in front of them pre-show and will drive hot prospects to your booth.
  2. Use Everything…Even the Trade Show Floor! Your best friend should be the event organizer, because the better you can get in with the organizer, the more lead-way he/she may give you to do some geurilla marketing. I love the example below from InterlinkONE — they used the trade show floor to drive traffic to their booth by attaching a video to the QR code that outlined all of the reasons event attendees should visit the booth. Great idea InterlinkONE!
  3. Make Each Visit Count. The great thing about QR codes? They can be splashed on almost anything! Banners, shirts, promotional products, your booth, chairs, rugs…I mean, get creative! Drive intrigue at your booth so that visitors will want to 1) become a Facebook fan, 2) visit your website, 3) download a brochure or 4) watch a video. P.S. I know this picture looks like it was taken in someone’s college dorm room, but just roll with me here…you get the idea.

4. Use QR Codes to Spread WOM: With all of the fabulous platforms and apps available now…think about incentivizing booth visitors when they ‘check in’ at your booth via Foursquare or complete specific ‘challenges’ via SCVNGR. If this is all over your head, check back in a week — I’m going to write a post about using apps to drive trade show traffic.

5. Following up can be Fun! Use QR codes in your follow-up letters or cards. Personalize with a video of your president personally thanking prospects for stopping by your booth. Here’s an example of how EYB used QR codes in client holiday cards.

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you very much for putting this list together!

And… I do work at interlinkONE. So, here’s an extra special thank you for displaying the floor decal that we used too.

    We appreciate it!

    Have a great day,
    Jason
