EYB’s July Creative Customer Award: David Zahm’s Recipe for Winning Customers Over with Promo Products

This month we named Zahm our creative customer for the month of July! This award was a no-brainer as David came to us with an exceptionally outstanding idea for how to increase leads and brand exposure with promotional products.  And, as you know, the 2010 Creative Customer Award is given when an EYB customer performs an out-of-the box promotional marketing tactic with success, so here’s more information about how David’s outstanding idea helped him to open the door to new business with a little bit of humor and a lot of creativity.

The problem: David Zahm offers payroll services through PayChex to small and medium-sized companies.  The most difficult thing for the payroll services industry is just getting your foot in the door. If he’s able to get a customer meeting, the PayChex services usually speak for themselves.

The solution: David wanted to be remembered, so he decided to partner with EYB Promotions to create a prospect nurture program that would entail a 3-D direct mail campaign that would include a series of promotional items. The key to this campaign’s success would be in the memorable items and quirky messaging that would be sent to the prospective customers over a period of 3 weeks. David had quite a few items that he thought would make a lasting impression and EYB helped to round out his vision with a few ideas of our own.  Along with purchasing boomerangs to entice customers to “come back to paychex” and a branded fan with the message, “thanks for becoming a fan, now the rest is a breeze,” he purchased other cleverly marketing items for every point of the sales nurture and retention stage.

When we asked Zahm why he thought it was important for him to get his brand exposed through promotional products, Zahm said it was for two reasons. “One, to brand myself and give my potential clients something to remember. And, two, to engage potential clients. I want to give my clients a reason to pick up my follow-up call.”

How was it a success? We asked Zahm if he had noticed an increase in business since handing out these promotional products to which he said, “Yes, already.” He said his potential clients love them. They laugh, which makes them want to spread the promotional products around the office and allows Zahm to get more exposure and possible business.
