Hype Watch: Stickybits…Graffiti for Geeks

Debuting at SXSW (one of the world’s largest creative discovery conferences), Stickybits has cleverly found a way to mesh the physical world with the digital world.
The idea? Very similar to a barcode on products sold at retail stores, this company offers individual barcodes for purchase in a sticker format. The purchaser (you) would then download the Stickybits app and scan your newly purchased barcode with your phone. The app then gives you an option to attach digital files (pictures, documents, etc.) or online profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.). The files can then be accessed by anyone who phone-scans the barcode.
So now a real life application — say you’re in a band and you’re marketing your latest gig with flyers around a college campus, you could place a barcode on the flyers and by-passers could access your latest songs, online profiles, pictures or additional concert information with a quick scan of their phone.
You can just imagine all of the possibilities…very interesting idea, especially for corporate events, tradeshow giveaways, promotions, etc. Some are calling it “graffiti for nerds”…call me a nerd, but I think it’s pretty cool.
